Christmas comes too early!
There’s something special about Autumn sunshine. Here in Bath we enjoy some wonderful colours at this time of year. Like our parent Rome, we are surrounded by seven hills – the Romans liked to feel at home when they came here to enjoy the nearby spa waters. I know you will be enjoying some Autumn sunshine where you are as well – please feel free to send me some pictures, I would love to feature them on my blog.
I don’t know about you, but I really resent how the shops begin the build-up to Christmas so early. While I look forward to and enjoy the Christmas break, I really do not want to be force-fed festive cheer from the end of October.
Christmas markets are already springing up, there are only so many hand-strung beaded bracelets and home made candles we can have! Nice mulled wine and hot nuts, though. It’s just too early!
It’s like, I don’t want to eat strawberries in December! What happened to seasonal fruits and vegetables?
Our Christmas lights are being turned on here in Bath tomorrow night. We have Bathonian Mary Berry doing the honours. Nice to see you, Mary, but, like some of the dishes you judged on The Great British Bake-Off, you are peaking too early!
I think we should have a campaign to keep Autumn special. I love this time of year….”Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” (John Keats, Ode to Autumn). But let us enjoy it! I want to pick apples and conkers, go for long, Autumnal walks with my dog in the still mild weather. Go away, Christmas! Come back in about three weeks’ time!
In the meantime, where’s that apple crumble……
